Job Description
General Assistant (Only External Applications)
The General Assistant will be tasked with delivering excellent in-store customer service, maintaining stock displays in a tip-top condition, checking prices are accurate, and maintaining the working area neat and tidy.
Minimum Requirements
The applicants should be able to possess the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for this role:
- Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with a year of work experience in the relevant field, or
- Grade 12 with no experience.
- English and the major local language as a working knowledge.
- Current South African ID or current work permit.
- Basic arithmetic skills.
- Flexible working hours, including weekends and public holidays, readiness to work.
- Able to function under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
General Assistant carries out the following responsibilities and tasks to be done:
- Customer Service/Merchandising/ Housekeeping
- Provide product advice and assist customers with queries.
- Resolve customer complaints efficiently.
- Stand bulk stock safely in accordance with store layout guidelines.
- Keep your allocated area fully stocked in line with the store’s planograms.
- Keep the area of work clear of obstructions and easily accessible, with restocking after delivery.
- Put correct price tags on shelves.
- Complete required checklists during work, including canteen and restrooms.
Safety Compliance (OHSA)/ Stock Loss Prevention
- Obey Occupational Health and Safety rules (e.g., have safety equipment on and promote safety).
- Stack products in racks and bulk areas safely for customers and staff.
- Notify Store Manager of all safety and stock issues.
- Report spoiled stock to the Store Manager.
Integrity
- Behave ethically and responsibly.
- Take promises and be discreet.
- Identify values and flag where lines are crossed.
Accuracy
- Work carefully and be accurate.
- Work tasks efficiently from beginning to end.
- Check work in order to avoid mistakes.
