The Standard Bank Group Bursary Programme endeavors to encourage academic excellence that would go a long way in helping to develop the next generation of African talent and leadership.
The bursary covers the study of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the fields of Agriculture, Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, and Science, including Actuarial Science, Analytics, Business Science, Computer Science, Data Science, and Information Science. This is apart from Statistics, Technology-Click Financial, Information, and emerging Behavioural Economics disciplines, like Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, and Neuroscience.
If the beneficiaries receive a job offer from Standard Bank upon completion of studies, they will be obligated to work for the Bank.
Undergraduate Bursary
The Standard Bank Group Undergraduate Bursary
This bursary targets students that are on track to complete their first year and require funding from year two onwards. Applicants need to be well-rounded, with strong academic results in the fields the funding covers.
Minimum selection criteria:
- This implies the student must have achieved an average of 65% or higher in recent exams.
- Full-time registration, undergraduate study.
- Formal assessment process: psychometric testing and interview.
- Applications are considered, taking financial need into account. Postgraduate Bursary
The Standard Bank Group Postgraduate Bursary
It is a full-cost bursary awarded to financially deserving and academically strong students who wish to pursue postgraduate studies within the fields funded.
Minimum selection criteria
- Average of 65% or higher in the latest exams.
- Full-time registration for postgraduate leading to a higher degree undertaken at a public South African higher education institution.
- The formal process of an assessment, including psychometric tests and an interview.
- -Applications consider financial need.
Bursary Details
The Standard Bank Group Bursary Fund covers full costs, which includes:
- University tuition fees
- Accommodation – university housing or private accommodation; private costs have limits explained to successful candidates during the provisional bursary allocation
- Meals – either provided by the university or self-catered – Books, among other study materials – A laptop – A monthly stipend to cover other living expenses – Travel from and to home up to four times in an academic year, covering the cost of bus fare. Selection Criteria

The bursary fund is only available to students who require financial support in their second, third, and final year of undergraduate studies, as well as students who are undertaking postgraduate studies up to Master’s level. The name of the bursary fund is the Standard Bank Group Bursary Fund.
Applicants should also be well-rounded with excellent academic achievements in the areas of Agriculture, Commerce, Engineering, Mathematics, Science (Actuarial Science, Analytics, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Science), Statistics, and Technology (Financial, Information) and the various areas of the emerging field of Behavioural Economics (Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience)
- The aggregate percentage required is 65%.
- The candidates must apply for full-time study.
- Financially deserving applicants will be considered.

Applications need to be submitted on the online application system provided by StudyTrust (hosted by DevMan) by no later than 30 September to be considered for a bursary for the coming year.

- Proof of all academic achievements up until now (Gr 12 certificate and tertiary academic record)
