About the Role

This position forms part of the hospital’s Support Services Directorate and plays an important role in ensuring that transport and logistical needs are met efficiently. The Driver will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transport for staff, patients, and essential goods.

The role goes beyond basic driving duties. It requires a responsible individual who understands the importance of punctuality, safety, and professionalism in a healthcare environment. The successful candidate will contribute directly to the smooth running of hospital services by ensuring that transport-related tasks are carried out effectively.


Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 10 qualification
  • At least 1–2 years of relevant driving experience
  • A valid Code C1 driver’s licence
  • A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) or willingness to renew it at own cost

Key Responsibilities

The Driver will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:

  • Operating motor vehicles in accordance with approved government procedures
  • Obtaining trip authorisation and accurately completing vehicle logbooks
  • Conducting routine vehicle inspections and reporting any faults or defects
  • Monitoring fuel, oil, water, and tyre conditions to ensure roadworthiness
  • Transporting staff and patients safely to various destinations
  • Performing messenger duties and supporting general office functions
  • Assisting with registry-related tasks when required
  • Loading and offloading goods as part of delivery responsibilities
  • Ensuring proper control, safekeeping, and responsible use of government vehicles
  • Maintaining cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned vehicles

Work Environment

The successful candidate will be based at Helen Joseph Tertiary Hospital in Gauteng and will work within a structured support services environment. The role requires flexibility, as shift work is essential to meet the operational needs of the hospital, including after-hours, weekends, and public holidays.
