🔨 What Is the Job About?
The successful candidate will work as part of the hospital’s Facility Management Unit, helping keep the hospital’s buildings, fittings and carpentry structures in good condition.
The work includes repairing and installing items such as:
- Cupboards
- Doors
- Ceilings
- Shelves
- Counters
- Wooden structures and fittings
You will also receive maintenance requests, assess the work required, identify the materials and tools needed, and make sure completed work meets the required safety and quality standards.
✅ Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have:
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate
- Minimum N3 theory in Carpentry or an equivalent relevant qualification
- A recognised Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry and Woodwork
- At least 2 years’ experience in general carpentry maintenance and repairs
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good planning and organising skills
- Problem-solving ability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Willingness to work standby, overtime, weekends and public holidays when required
⭐ Added Advantage
A valid South African Code B driver’s licence will be an advantage.
🛠️ Main Duties
The Maintenance Artisan will be responsible for duties such as:
- Performing carpentry maintenance and repair work
- Installing and repairing cupboards, doors, shelves and counters
- Repairing ceilings and other wooden fittings
- Inspecting carpentry structures for defects and damage
- Assessing maintenance requests
- Identifying the tools, materials and equipment required
- Reporting additional defects to the supervisor
- Recording completed maintenance work
- Keeping tools and work areas clean and safe
- Following occupational health and safety requirements
- Working according to approved maintenance requests
- Performing standby and overtime duties when required
- Assisting with other reasonable maintenance duties
