Drill Rig Operator Vacancy – Underground Chrome Mining | Limpopo
Are you an experienced Drill Rig Operator with underground trackless mining experience? An opportunity is available for a skilled, competent and safety-focused operator to join an underground chrome mining operation in Limpopo.
The position is based in the Tsibeng/Moeijelijk Communities, Ga-Wannankaye District, between Polokwane and Burgersfort. The advertised cost-to-company package is R240,000 to R264,000 per year. (Job Placements)
Position: Drill Rig Operator
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating underground drilling equipment and drilling blast holes according to approved drilling plans, patterns and safety requirements.
This role requires a strong commitment to mine safety, quality, productivity and equipment care.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Safely operate underground drill rigs and related equipment.
- Position and align drilling equipment according to approved drilling patterns.
- Drill blast holes to the required depth, angle and spacing.
- Monitor drilling progress and machine operating conditions.
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections and report equipment defects.
- Monitor underground ground conditions and report hazards immediately.
- Perform basic operator-level troubleshooting within their competency.
- Report mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Maintain drill rods, bits and other drilling consumables.
- Complete inspection checklists and production documentation.
- Follow mine health and safety procedures, including lock-out and isolation requirements.
- Wear the required PPE at all times.
- Work closely with miners, supervisors, blasting teams and other underground personnel.
- Help minimise equipment downtime through early identification and reporting of faults.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants should have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- OEM Drill Rig Operator training or competency certificate
- At least 5 years of underground trackless mining experience
- At least 2 years of proven Drill Rig Operator experience
- Experience operating underground drilling equipment
- A practical understanding of drilling patterns, hole positioning, depth and angle requirements
- Good knowledge of underground mining operations and safety procedures
- Good communication and teamwork skills

Salary Package
Cost-to-Company: R240,000 – R264,000 per annum
That is approximately R20,000 to R22,000 per month before deductions, depending on how the total cost-to-company package is structured.
